David Zwirner, Inc. seeks a freelance Project Research Associate to assist the Research & Exhibitions department. The Project Research Associate will be responsible for preparing primarily Chinese-language and bilingual English/Chinese research-related content for the Hong Kong gallery’s needs. The Project Research Associate will work within the Research & Exhibitions department in New York, working closely with the Hong Kong-based Directors and team. The Project Research Associate is responsible for generating and tailoring texts and related content about the gallery’s artists, exhibitions, and activities.

The proposed term of contract is July-Fall 2018.

Primary responsibilities include:

  • Draw from the gallery’s in-house existing English-language texts to produce translated and/or modified texts
  • Translate into Chinese selected narrative bios on gallery artists for upcoming exhibitions and presentations, matching quality of writing, accuracy of information to existing texts
  • Translate press releases for upcoming shows at the gallery
  • Generate new, edited/expanded content in Chinese (and bilingual English/Chinese) about gallery artists/activities to supplement gallery materials for the public and potentially for wechat or other digital platforms.

Relevant upcoming projects include:

  • Texts pertaining to the Hong Kong gallery’s fall exhibitions
  • Specific texts and translations as needed, to be assigned by Hong Kong Directors and Director of Research & Exhibitions


  • MA in Art History or related field
  • Fluency in English and Chinese, native speakers preferred
  • Excellent writing skills in Chinese and in English
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Demonstrated knowledge of twentieth century and contemporary art and familiarity with the gallery’s artists
